Vol. 538 No. 1

Written Answers. - Motor Insurance.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

88 Mr. Howlin asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the verified data sought by the Motor Insurance Advisory Board from the insurance industry; the timeframe agreed for the provision of this information; when it is expected the final report of the Motor Insurance Advisory Board will be published; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17224/01]

I understand that certified data have been received from most of the companies writing motor insurance in Ireland at this stage. The Motor Insurance Advisory Board, MIAB, has received explanations from the companies from whom data are outstanding and is satisfied that certified data will be forthcoming within an acceptable timeframe. The millions of data submitted will then have to be verified and analysed on behalf of the board. This will take some months. Once that task is complete, the board will consider the implications of the data and will make appropriate recommendations in its final report to me. In the light of its recommendations, I will take whatever further action is appropriate.

Question No. 89 answered with Question No. 59.
