Vol. 538 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cancer Treatment Services.

Michael Bell

Question:

154 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the decision by the North-Eastern Health Board to locate the regional breast cancer unit outside Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that this is contrary to the advice received by the chief executive officer; if he will review this matter urgently; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17341/01]

As the Deputy is aware, the provision of hospital services in this area is the statutory responsibility of the North-Eastern Health Board in the first instance. I understand from the board that the development of specialist breast disease services in the area was discussed at a recent meeting and that it was agreed to further consider this at its next meeting on 25 June 2001.
