Vol. 538 No. 1

Written Answers. - Medical Indemnity Insurance.

Bernard Allen

Question:

162 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make a statement on the recent departure of a senior member of staff at the company contracted by his Department to advise on the reform of medical indemnity; and if he sees this as a setback to the progress on the introduction of enterprise liability. [17356/01]

My Department has a contract with Marsh Ireland Limited for the provision of insurance, actuarial and other advice on the introduction of enterprise liability as the future basis on which hospitals and clinical staff will be indemnified. A partner in Marsh Ireland who had been working on the project has left the company to establish his own consultancy business. The implications of this change have been discussed with the company. A managing partner in the firm who was project chairman has now taken on a more direct involvement in ensuring the completion of the project. I am satisfied that this development will not hinder the introduction of enterprise liability as planned in July 2002.
