Vol. 538 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sports Funding.

Paul Bradford

Question:

130 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if a further scheme of lottery funded sports grants will be made available later in 2001; and if unsuccessful applicants will have to reapply. [17600/01]

The sports capital programme for 2001 was advertised in mid-December 2000 with a closing date of 9 February 2001 for the receipt of completed applications. In excess of 1,450 applications were received and assessed against the programme's criteria, following which I announced, on 7 June, the allocation of £40 million to 680 projects under the programme.

Accordingly, the programme for 2001 is now closed and any organisation seeking further funding, including those who applied unsuccessfully this year, will have to apply under the 2002 programme, which I intend to advertise later this year.
