Vol. 538 No. 2

Written Answers. - Turbary Rights.

John Perry

Question:

79 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will intervene on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Sligo and have an allotment of boglands granted to him; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17570/01]

In reply to Parliamentary Question No. 138, on 27 March 2001, I indicated that the bogland in question was being disposed of under the terms of section 8 of the Irish Land Commission Dissolution Act, 1992. Under the terms of this section an advertisement was placed in the local newspaper inviting interested parties to apply.

An inspector in my Department interviewed all the applicants, including the person named. The inspector has drawn up a scheme recommending the allotment of plots to various persons. The person named was not among the successful applicants.

I do not intend to intervene, as it would be inappropriate for me to do so.
