Question:

100 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that laser equipment in the Mater Hospital has been out of order since 28 May 2001, and that several eye procedures have been postponed as a result; the reasons a person (details supplied) in Dublin 9 is being prevented from being facilitated in the private wing of the hospital or alternatively accommodated at Beaumont Hospital who are also aware of his condition while the machine is under repair; the overall policy of the relevant authorities in relation to sharing such equipment; if there are agreed procedures in place; if not, the reason therefor; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Responsibility for the provision of health services for persons living in Counties Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow rests with the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has asked the regional chief executive of the authority to investigate the issues raised by the Deputy and to reply to her directly.
