Vol. 538 No. 3

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

180 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Finance if he intends to transfer a certain section or sections of the revenue and taxation operations under his Department from Sarsfield House, Limerick, to Tipperary town; if he has other plans to decentralise part of the public or Civil Service to Tipperary town; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17935/01]

No decisions have yet been taken in relation to a new programme of decentralisation and accordingly I have no plans to relocate any of the existing Revenue functions from Limerick to Tipperary town. Consideration is currently being given to a range of issues associated with a new programme, including the selection of centres to which Government offices will be relocated. In that regard the case made for the inclusion of Tipperary town will, along with the many other cases made, be fully considered as part of the deliberations taking place in advance of a Government decision.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

181 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Finance the number of public servants seeking transfers to Government offices in County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17953/01]

The transfer lists currently set up in the Civil Service relate mainly to the clerical officer grade. The numbers on the transfer lists for the main Departments with offices in County Kerry are given in the attached table. There will be some duplication in that individual officers may apply for transfer to the offices of a number of Departments in the same location, or to more than one location within the same Department and could, therefore, be included in more than one list. Any transfer arrangements applying in the wider public service rather than the Civil Service would be a matter for the organisations in question.

The Legal Aid Board is opening a temporary office in Caherciveen, pending the building of a permanent office which is scheduled for completion in spring 2002. About 20 staff will take up duty in July 2001. It is expected that a small number of other staff will take up duty in Caherciveen later this year and the balance of the total complement of around 40 posts will be in place in spring 2002 when the permanent premises are available.
