Vol. 538 No. 3

Written Answers. - Medical Council.

Bernard Allen

Question:

201 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans he has to appoint a representative of patients to the Medical Council. [17715/01]

As the Deputy is aware, the Medical Practitioners Act, 1978, provides that four persons may be appointed by the Minister, of whom at least three shall not be registered general practitioners and shall represent the interests of the general public. Due to the recent resignation of such a representative, there is currently a vacancy which I hope to fill as soon as possible. The board currently includes two other members, who were appointed by me to represent the interests of the general public.
