Vol. 538 No. 3

Written Answers. - Childhood Immunisation Programme.

Bernard Allen

Question:

202 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans he has to grant aid the purchase of resuscitation equipment for general practitioners involved in the childhood immunisation programme. [17716/01]

In the delivery of a wide range of care to both their public and private patients, general practitioners may be confronted with circumstances that require the availability of resuscitation equipment.

Following recent discussions between the Health Service Employers Agency and the Irish Medical Organisation concerning certain matters of general practice, a once-off grant in respect of certain equipment, including resuscitation equipment, up to a maximum of £1,000 was agreed. Where health boards have already made contributions to the purchase of relevant equipment, the amount of that contribution will be deducted from any claim made.
