Vol. 538 No. 3

Suspension of Member.

I move: "That Deputy Durkan be suspended from the service of the Dáil." Is the motion being opposed?

Deputies

Yes.

Michael McDowell's version of devil's advocate—

In accordance with Standing Orders, the division will take place at the beginning of business on the next sitting day. The Deputy must now leave the House. We will now resume on questions on the Order of Business.

Before I leave—

The Deputy must leave the House. He is suspended from this sitting and has no right to address the House.

I accept that fully—

The Deputy is suspended. I ask him to leave the House.

May I just ask a question?

The Deputy may not ask a question. If he has a query he must come to my office.

Is the Ceann Comhairle standing over the decision not to allow a Member of the House to raise a question that is perfectly in order?

The Deputy is being disorderly. He must leave the House. The sitting is suspended for ten minutes.

Sitting suspended at 5.01 p.m. and resumed at 5.10 p.m.
Deputy Durkan withdrew from the Chamber.
