Vol. 538 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sale of Hospital Property

John McGuinness

Question:

244 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will consider the purchase of Aut Even Hospital, Kilkenny, with a view to partial use of the property as a home for the elderly; if the public demand for such a facility and the waiting lists which exist at Thomastown, County Kilkenny, will be considered; and if an instruction issued to the South-Eastern Health Board to report on the deficit of service in this area and the feasibility of purchasing the property or entering into a public private partnership is available. [18040/01]

The provision of health services in County Kilkenny is a matter for the South-Eastern Health Board.

Aut Even Hospital is a private facility, owned and managed by the Sisters of St. John of God, which has recently been placed for sale on the open market as a going concern. I understand from the South-Eastern Health Board that they are considering this situation and are in consultation with the owners of the hospital. Following their consideration of the options available the board will be in further touch with my Department.
