Vol. 538 No. 3

Written Answers. - Crime Levels.

Alan Shatter

Question:

292 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of public order offences and incidents of street violence that have occurred in each of the past four years in Clonmel, Cashel and Tipperary town; the number of prosecutions initiated as a consequence of such incidents in each of the said years; and the number of convictions which have resulted. [17981/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that statistics are not available in the format requested by the Deputy. Statistics for the Garda division of Tipperary have, however, been published in the Garda Síochána annual reports for the years 1997, 1998 and 1999 under the heading of "Non-indictable Offences", and these reports are available in the Oireachtas Library. The statistics for the Criminal Justice (Public Order Act), 1994, are included in the total divisional figure for Tipperary.
