Vol. 538 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Nora Owen

Question:

298 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the reason a number of clubs (details supplied) did not receive any grant aid in the recent announcement of lottery grant aid; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17702/01]

Following the public advertising of the 2001 Sports Capital Programme, in excess of 1,450 applications were received, including applications from the organisations in question. All of the applications were assessed in accordance with assessment criteria outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions governing the programme. Following the assessment process, the organisations in question were unsuccessful on this occasion and this decision, together with a copy of the assessment conducted on the application, was conveyed to each of the organisations by letter dated 13 June 2001. I expect to be advertising the 2002 Sports Capital Programme before the end of this year and it will be open to the organisations in question to apply for funding under that programme.

Question:

299 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the total sum of funding provided for sport and recreational groups in the Dublin area in the lottery allocation for 2001; the total sum involved in the past three years; the level of funding given to each organisation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17755/01]

Under the 2001 Sports Capital Programme, I allocated a total of £40 million to 680 projects around the country, of which £9,571,000 was allocated to 96 projects located in County Dublin. A schedule listing the allocations follows. In the past three years, under the Sports Capital Programmes 1999 to 2001, inclusive, I have allocated £26,933,700 to projects in County Dublin. The allocation in 1999 was £5,093,000 and in 2000 it was £12,269,700, including allocations for regional and national projects located in Dublin. For example, a grant of £4.1 million was allocated to Fingal County Council towards the construction of a national indoor athletics facility at Santry Stadium.
