Vol. 538 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Willie Penrose

Question:

302 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the reason an organisation (details supplied) has failed to obtain capital grant assistance for the second year in succession; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18046/01]

Following the public advertising of the 2001 Sport Capital Programme, in excess of 1,450 applications were received, including an application from the organisation in question. All of the applications were assessed in accordance with assessment criteria outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions governing the programme. Following the assessment process, the organisation in question was unsuccessful on this occasion and this decision, together with a copy of the assessment conducted on the application, was conveyed to the organisation by letter dated 13 June 2001. I expect to be advertising the 2002 sports capital programme before the end of this year and it will be open to the organisation to apply for funding under that programme.
