Vol. 538 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Liam Aylward

Question:

316 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will instruct the planning section of his Department to immediately contact County Kilkenny Vocational Education Commit tee concerning an application by a school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny which is seeking to become a community college under the aegis of Kilkenny Vocational Education Committee; the reason no communication has taken place between his Department and Kilkenny Vocational Education Committee and the board of management of the college in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17862/01]

The planning section of my Department is currently examining the proposal on behalf of the school in question to become a community college under the aegis of County Kilkenny Vocational Education Committee.

This proposal was discussed in considerable detail at a lengthy meeting some time ago between officials of the planning section of my Department and representatives of the board of management and the VEC. There has also been informal contact in the interim.

The current position is that consideration of the application is at an advanced stage and, when completed, the matter will be submitted to me for decision. A formal written response will issue to all parties as soon as I have determined the appropriate course of action.
