Vol. 538 No. 3

Written Answers. - Institutes of Technology.

Liam Aylward

Question:

317 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if the degree course in counselling skills will be made available to students in Waterford Institute of Technology who are anxious to continue to do a degree course in Waterford. [17863/01]

The institute of technology in Waterford is a statutory body established under the Regional Technical Colleges Acts, 1992 to 1999. Under the Acts, the governance and operational activities of the institute are matters for which the governing body and the management of the institute are responsible.

It is a function of the institute to provide such courses of study as the governing body of the institute considers appropriate, subject to my approval of the annual programmes and budgets submitted to me in accordance with the Acts. The institute has not included a degree course in counselling skills in its programmes submitted for approval.
