Vol. 538 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

334 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education and Science if consideration of an application for an extension to the Sacred Heart national school, Newbawn, County Wexford has been deferred indefinitely; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that 37 junior infants occupy a tiny classroom in this school and that there is no PE room; if his attention has been further drawn to the fact that the staff room is inadequate for the current staff complement, and that the resource teacher and special needs teacher must share a small room; the basis on which it is considered that additional accommodation is not urgently needed in this school; if he will review the application for an extension; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17993/01]

My Department has received an application from the management authorities of Sacred Heart national school, Newbawn, County Wexford for grant-aid towards additional accommodation.

It is not possible at this stage to give any indication as to the timeframe for the provision of the accommodation.
