Vol. 538 No. 5

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

71 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the proposals he has to ensure small boat fishermen are able to gain access to the pier at Dunmore East, County Waterford, to land their catch (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18414/01]

Dunmore East Fishery Harbour Centre caters for a wide variety of activity, ranging from large fishing trawlers to small inshore boats and pleasure craft. There is a constant demand for quay space and there are undoubtedly periods when this presents difficulties. Staff at the harbour are conscious of the needs of the users and strive to facilitate them. The Deputy will appreciate that the co-operation of all parties at Dunmore East is a necessary ingredient in this process. The Department in consultation with the port users' committee will continue to work intensively to overcome access, congestion and other challenges at Dunmore East.
