Vol. 539 No. 2

Written Answers. - Budget Targets.

Michael Bell

Question:

47 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Finance if he expects to meet the revenue targets and budget surplus projected in the budget; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19036/01]

At this stage there is the possibility that the revenue target of £23.99 billion and the Exchequer surplus of £2.538 billion announced in Budget 2001 will not be achieved. Since budget day, the US economy has slowed and foot and mouth restrictions have had an impact on tax receipts, especially indirect taxes. The end of June Exchequer figures will be available next week and I will, as usual, be issuing a statement when the figures are published on 3 July.
