Question:

66 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if the Government supports the re-election of Mr. Kofi Annan as Secretary General of the United Nations; and the members of the Security Council who have yet to endorse the recommendation. [19342/01]

The Security Council is expected to recommend on Wednesday, 27 June, by consensus resolution, the reappointment of Mr Kofi Annan as Secretary General of the United Nations for a second five year term. Ireland fully supports the Secretary General's reappointment which is expected to be formally made by the UN General Assembly on Friday, 29 June.
