Vol. 539 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Question:

121 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will establish a designated care unit for tinnitus; and if he will respond to points made by a group (details supplied). [19177/01]

The provision of hospital services to persons with tinnitus is a matter in the first instance for the health boards and the Eastern Regional Health Authority.

I am aware of concerns expressed by representatives of the Irish Tinnitus Association regarding the level of services available in major hospitals to tinnitus sufferers. In this regard, I am having inquiries made of the health boards and the ERHA in order to assess the current position.

I have also arranged for officials from my Department to meet with representatives of the association when the service position has been clarified.

Michael Ring

Question:

122 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be called for an MRI scan at Beaumont Hospital as a public patient. [19183/01]

The provision of medical treatment in this instance is the responsibility of the Western Health Board.

My Department has asked the board's chief executive officer to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.
