Vol. 539 No. 2

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Certificates.

Bernard Allen

Question:

142 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if a new arrangement has been reached with the IMO regarding the completion of social welfare certificates by general practitioners; and the terms of the agreement, if made. [19139/01]

Fees are paid by my Department to general medical practitioners for the provision of medical certificates and reports in respect of customers claiming illness payments. The current agreement on fees with the Irish Medical Organisation, IMO, covers the period to 30 June 2001.

Negotiations on a new fee structure, which commenced in March of this year, are ongoing.
