Vol. 539 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

158 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has received an application from the Clonmel GAA Sportsfield, jointly owned by St. Mary's Hurling Club and Commercials Football Club, under the sports capital grants scheme for the provision of extra dressing rooms; if the funding was made available; if not, the reason therefor; if he will consider funding this important development out of remaining funds; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19142/01]

Following the public advertising of the 2001 sports capital programme, in excess of 1,450 applications were received, including an application from the organisation in question. All of the applications were assessed in accordance with assessment criteria outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions governing the programme.

Following the assessment process, the organisation in question was unsuccessful on this occasion and this decision, together with a copy of the assessment conducted on the application, was conveyed to the organisation by letter dated 13 June 2001.

I expect to be advertising details of the 2002 sports capital programme before the end of this year.
