Vol. 539 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Enrolment.

Jack Wall

Question:

176 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science the proposed enrolment and the projected enrolment for primary schools (details supplied) in County Kildare for each of the next five years; if he has satisfied himself that the demands can be met; if not, the plans he has to resolve the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19242/01]

The projected enrolment details sought by the Deputy for the primary schools in the areas mentioned are not readily available for all the schools listed and the considerable time and effort that would be required to produce the data requested could not be justified.

The Kildare area has been the subject of regular review by my Department in recent years, in view of the general growth in population there. At present, there are several building projects in architectural planning for schools in the area, at both primary and postprimary level. It is envisaged that, when these projects are completed, there will be sufficient school accommodation to meet future needs.

However, my Department will continue to monitor school accommodation requirements in Kildare to ensure that any emerging needs are addressed.
