Vol. 539 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Paul Bradford

Question:

190 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education and Science when a person (details supplied) in County Cork who provides transport to St. Columbus Special School, Douglas, County Cork, will be paid outstanding arrears of £1,500, arising from a new rate of transport fees. [19332/01]

I understand that the person referred to by the Deputy has been contracted by Bus Éireann, who operate the special school transport service on behalf of my Department, to provide a transport service since January of this year.

As an interim measure he provided a transport service for a special needs pupil in the period September 2000 to end December 2000. Payments have issued to the contractor for this period, however, I understand that the accounts submitted related to a higher level of payment than the rate sanctioned by my Department for this service.

I have asked my officials to investigate this matter and to make contact with the contractor involved to resolve this issue.
