Vol. 539 No. 2

Written Answers. - Proposed Legislation.

Ivor Callely

Question:

32 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance the progress of the Disabled Drivers and Passengers Tax Concessions Regulations, 1994; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18374/01]

It is unclear from the Deputy's question whether he is referring to the scheme itself or to the interdepartmental review of the scheme. The cost of the reliefs under the scheme, excluding the annual road tax costs, have risen from £4 million in 1994 to approximately £22 million in 2000. I expect the cost to rise again this year. I am informed that the work of the interdepartmental review group, which is chaired by an official of the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, is ongoing.
