Written Answers. - Hospitals Building Programme.

Seán Barrett

Question:

92 Mr. Barrett asked the Minister for Health and Children if the redevelopment of St. Vincent's Hospital, Elm Park, Dublin, will be completed soon; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19352/01]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that I recently approved the appointment of contractors for a major redevelopment of St. Vincent's University Hospital, Elm Park, Dublin. This project will involve the redevelopment of the accident and emergency department, the intensive care unit, the ambulatory day care unit, the radiology and nuclear medicine unit, the pathology unit, administration and concourse, and the operating department.

In addition, it will include the development of a new 54-bed psychiatric unit which will replace existing facilities at St. Vincent's and at Vergemount, Clonskeagh. Construction work is expected to commence shortly and should be completed by early 2005.
