Vol. 539 No. 3

Written Answers. - Mobility Management Plans.

Question:

124 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Finance the steps he has taken to implement the mobility management plans for staff commuting to their Departments; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19457/01]

I understand that the mobility management plans referred to in the Deputy's question were the subject of letters to a wide range of individuals and organisations around the end of May. Mobility management plans form part of the DTO's strategy to promote measures aimed at managing transport demand. These plans cover a range of approaches and they will vary in detail from organisation to organisation. Fundamentally, however, mobility management plans aim to assist staff to change their approach to travel in a way that reduces overall transport pressures.

Areas that can feature in mobility management plans include car pooling, cycle parking-shower facilities, walk-links to public transport nodes, flexitime arrangements and teleworking schemes for employees. My Department has already acted in a number of these areas in the context of improving conditions generally for employees and consideration will be given to the feasibility of further initiatives in the context of the DTO's initiative.
