Vol. 540 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water Maintenance Works.

Michael Ring

Question:

133 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance when the Office of Public Works will undertake a survey to ascertain the maintenance requirement of a drain (details supplied) in County Mayo; when the backwater will be removed from this drain to make it safer for humans and animals; and if the works will be carried out immediately. [20330/01]

The survey of the drain in question, which had been deferred due to the foot and mouth disease prevention measures, was carried out last week. The findings of the survey are currently being examined with a view to deciding what, if any, maintenance works will be required on the channel.

The scheduling of any proposed works will be dependant on the Office of Public Works' overall maintenance programme and the availability of resources.
