Written Answers. - Health Centres.

Brendan Smith

Question:

147 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Health and Children the position regarding the proposal to provide a new health centre at Ballinagh, County Cavan; the facilities to be provided; the total estimated expenditure; the likely commencement date for this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20328/01]

The provision of health centres in County Cavan is, in the first instance, a matter for the North Eastern Health Board.

I have been advised by that health board that the provision of a new health centre in Ballinagh is included in its national development plan capital development programme. The board has further advised me that the planning brief for this development is currently being finalised and that it is envisaged that the new health centre will provide the base for a comprehensive range of community health services. The current estimated cost of the development is £670,000 and it is hoped to commence the project in 2003.

Question:

148 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Health and Children the position regarding the proposal to extend Swanlinbar day centre, County Cavan; the estimated expenditure; the likely time frame for this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20329/01]

As the Deputy is aware, the provision of health services in the Cavan area is, in the first instance, the responsibility of the North Eastern Health Board.

The board informs me that their proposal to carry out capital works at Swanlinbar day centre is being re-examined. Any funding needed for this project will have to come from within the indicative figure allocated to the NEHB under the national development plan up to and including 2006.
