Vol. 540 No. 2

Written Answers. - Tracing Vaccine Recipients.

Denis Naughten

Question:

181 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children the progress which has been made in tracing the 296 recipients of a vaccine (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20392/01]

I have asked the health boards concerned for a report on the progress which has been made in tracing the recipients of vaccine from lots produced from batch 3741 Trivax three-in-one vaccine.

The North Western Health Board and the Western Health Board have been unable to provide the information in the time available. I will furnish the information to the Deputy as soon as it is received.
The Mid-Western Health Board has indicated that it is endeavouring to validate the addresses of the 183 recipients in its functional area. The board has also indicated that it will communicate, in the near future, with those whose present addresses have been confirmed.
The Southern Health Board has indicated that of the 107 recipients in its functional area, it wrote to 37 people for whom it had current addresses requesting them to contact the board. As of the end of June, 29 people made contact and have been advised of the situation. The board has indicated that all of the people who made contact were in good health. In a further 18 cases the individuals were no longer resident at the home address and the board considered it inappropriate, for reasons of confidentiality, to make contact with the home. The board has indicated that it has not been possible to trace the remaining 52 people.

In the case of all boards, the names of children identified as having received out of date vaccine have been forwarded to the relevant GP with a view to contacting the parents regarding revaccination. Health boards have requested GPs to submit details of the numbers of children revaccinated to the relevant boards. The boards have been unable to provide this information in the time available. I will forward this information to the Deputy as soon as it is received.
