Statistics on the number of persons who died in violent circumstances, defined as murder and manslaughter, for the years 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999 are as shown in the table below. Statistics for the years 2000 and 2001 have not yet been published and are, therefore, provisional and subject to change.
