Question:

193 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if the Government, when approving the non-payment of salaries to members of local authorities who are also Oireachtas members, will apply the same rules to Ministers' special advisers who are paid by the State and who are also members of local authorities; if not, the reason therefor; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19934/01]

Details of salary- type payments to local elected members will be elaborated in regulations to be made following the enactment of the Local Government Bill, 2000. All issues regarding entitlement to such payments will be set out in these regulations which will also require the consent of the Minister for Finance, and clearance with the Revenue Commissioners.
