Vol. 540 No. 3

Written Answers. - House Completions.

Richard Bruton

Question:

199 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his projections for house completions in 2001 and 2002; the way in which these compare with the figures for 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20522/01]

Total house completions for 2000 amounted to 49,812 units. Completions for the first five months of 2001 totalled 19,862, an increase of 6% on the same period last year. While it is not possible to give a definitive forecast of housing output for 2001 and 2002, I expect that total new housing output for this year would be of the order of 47,000 to 48,000 units.
