Vol. 540 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

247 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands her views on whether the level of funding to Dúchas for 2001 represents a decrease from the previous year when inflation is taken into account; and the way in which the wildlife amendment Act is to be enforced unless Dúchas funding is significantly increased. [20538/01]

Funds allocated to Dúchas, the heritage service of my Department, are sourced from subheads Q1, Q2, R, S, U and V of my Department's Vote. The total amount allocated under these subheads in 2001 is £51.54 million, compared with £47.99 million in 2000. This represents an increase of 7% over the 2000 allocation. I am satisfied the resources at my disposal will enable me to implement the provisions of the Wildlife (Amendment) Act, 2000.
