Vol. 540 No. 3

Written Answers. - Parking Restrictions.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

295 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the gardaí are enforcing the blanket ban on the parking of heavy goods vehicles in the Dublin city area; if so, the number of fines imposed since the inception of the ban; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20587/01]

I have been assured by the Garda authorities that the blanket ban, introduced on 12 February 2001, by Dublin Corporation in relation to heavy goods vehicles is being enforced by all members of the Garda Síochána in Dublin city.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that since the introduction of this ban, 15 fines on the spot notices have been issued and that there are also three prosecutions pending for breach of the by-laws.

I have been assured by the Garda authorities that Garda mobile and foot patrols will continue to enforce the ban on the illegal parking of heavy goods vehicles.
