Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Dukes – the need to bring into effect a provision in the Finance Bill 2000 providing for targeted relief for the purchase of milk quota; (2) Deputy Gerard Reynolds – the need to make a statement on the exploration for gas in the Cavan-Leitrim area, and whether the Government proposes to provide a gas turbine generator station in the region if a major find is confirmed; (3) Deputy Sean Ryan – the need for the retention of the 13th permanent post, repairs to the existing buildings and a permanent extension for St. Theresa's national school, Balbriggan, County Dublin; (4) Deputy Ó Caoláin – the need to explain the full implications of ENFOPOL 98 which gives police and intelligence agencies across the EU the right to tap and retain records of all mobile phone calls and e-mail communications; (5) Deputy Tom Hayes – when the Government proposes to decentralise Government offices to south Tipperary; (6) Deputy Penrose – the need for clarification regarding the prohibition on onward movement of animals under section 3(3) of the Diseases of Animals (Amendment) Act, 2001; (7) Deputy Michael D. Higgins – the poor state of the water and sewage system in Carroroe, County Galway and the need to replace the scheme without delay; (8) Deputy Broughan – the need to create a new traffic police force; (9) Deputy Sargent – the need to guarantee the quality of life of a person (details supplied) who has extensive medical needs; (10) Deputy Wall – to ask the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will outline in detail the legal position applicable under the Redundancies Acts 1967 to 1991 where by an employer can be compelled to attend a meeting to be held under the auspices of either a Rights Commissioner or the LRC or the Labour Court prior to the final closure of the employers business and in respect of the dispute at Peerless Rugs, Athy, County Kildare to identify what rights the employees have in this regard; (11) Deputy Allen – the need to discuss the failure of the Irish Blood Transfusion Service to disclose that blood from three persons who developed classical CJD was given to 20 patients, and the need to publish the Flynn report on the IBTS; (12) Deputy Ellis – the problem being caused by escaped deer in South Sligo and the failure of the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development to deal with the matter; (13) Deputy Howlin – the delay in determining entitlement to old age pension in respect of a person who applied for same three months ago; (14) Deputy McGinley – the closure of Herdsman Factory in Ballybofey, County Donegal and the loss of 85 jobs.

The matters raised by Deputies McGinley, Sargent, Allen and Michael D. Higgins have been selected for discussion.
