Vol. 540 No. 3

Written Answers. - State Airports.

Tony Killeen

Question:

76 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the statutory role Aer Rianta has in relation to public safety or aviation related mat ters beyond the aerodrome boundaries at State airports. [20539/01]

The Air Navigation and Transport (Amendment) Act, 1988, requires Aer Rianta to take all proper measures for the safety, security, management, control, regulation, operation, marketing and development of its airports. In discharge of that statutory duty, it is a matter for Aer Rianta to decide what representations, if any, it should make to the relevant planning authorities in respect of proposed developments within or in proximity to the State airports.

Question:

77 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the compensation mechanism which will be put in place for property owners whose property is devalued because of the declaration of public safety zones contiguous to State airports; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [20540/01]

It is intended that the airport related public safety zones will be implemented by the relevant planning authorities on the basis of guidelines disseminated to those authorities by the Department of the Environment and Local Government under the Planning Acts. The general question of compensation mechanisms under the planning Acts is a matter for my colleague the Minister for the Environment and Local Government.
