Vol. 541 No. 2

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31 dealing with two different topics. I propose to deal with these topics separately. I will call on Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office. As regards the first topic, I received notice from Deputy Healy and I now call on him to state the matter of which he has given notice to me.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise a matter of urgent national importance, namely, the current proposals which will lead to the closure of sub-post offices and the further erosion of rural life.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and therefore I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

As regards the second topic, I have received notice from Deputy Creed. I now call on Deputy Creed to state the matter of which he has given notice to me.

I seek the adjournment of Dáil Éireann under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following urgent and important matter, namely, the imminent possibility of closure of primary and post-primary schools over the issue of payment to teachers for substitution and supervision work and the ill timing by the Minister for Education and Science of pay deductions from ASTI members for strike days lost in the last school year while sensitive negotiations are not yet concluded.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and therefore I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
