Vol. 541 No. 3

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Projects.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

184 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation his plans for the pro vision of an Olympic standard swimming pool; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22689/01]

The Government last year approved the development of an aquatic and leisure centre on the Campus and Stadium Ireland site at Abbotstown. The facilities proposed include a full international competition size 50 metre swimming pool. Work on the centre commenced earlier this summer with a view to completion in time for Ireland's hosting of the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2003. The Deputy will already be aware that work is nearing completion on the 50 metre swimming pool at the University of Limerick.
