Michael Ring

Question:

106 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance if information regarding consultants for Departments is available under the Freedom of Information Act, 1997. [22552/01]

Under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, 1997, members of the public have a statutory right of access to records held by a public body, subject to certain exemptions which are set out in sections 19 to 32 of the Act.

In a case where a consultant is or was providing a service for a public body under a contract for services, the name of the consultant, information relating to the terms or conditions of the contract and anything written or recorded in any form by the consultant in the course of the provision of the service to the public body are subject to the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, 1997. These provisions include certain exemptions relating to records containing commercially sensitive information, personal or third party information and information given in confidence.
