Vol. 541 No. 3

Written Answers. - Health Centres.

Michael Ring

Question:

116 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will sanction a capital grant for an extension to a nursing unit and day care centre (details supplied) in County Mayo. [21592/01]

St. Colman's community nursing unit and day care centre operates in an old convent in Keel, Achill, County Mayo. It has been run by a local voluntary committee for some time. The Western Health Board has purchased the premises and also directly employs the entire staff providing this service.

A structural assessment of the building is being carried out by a firm of architects, and the Western Health Board informs me that, on receipt of a report, it intends making a formal submission to my Department for capital funding to develop St. Colman's nursing and day care centre further. Any such development would, of course, fall to be considered in the context of the board's overall financial allocation under the national development plan and the prioritisation of proposals within that allocation.
