Vol. 541 No. 5

Written Answers. - National Car Test.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

232 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the action he will take to ensure that car owners can satisfy themselves that their vehicle's emissions are below the accepted smoke emissions standard prior to taking the mandatory tests. [23371/01]

Motorists have been advised, in connection with the introduction of the national car test, NCT, to prepare for the test by ensuring that their cars are used, serviced and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.

The Irish motor industry was consulted in relation to the practical requirements of the NCT and has already provided a range of new measures and equipment to assist motorists in preparing their vehicles for all aspects of roadworthiness testing, including emission standards.
