Vol. 541 No. 5

Written Answers. - Public-Private Partnerships.

Austin Currie

Question:

250 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when the interdepartmental committee which is drawing up guidelines for public-private partnerships is expected to report; if he will encourage early implementation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23400/01]

My Department's consideration of the report of the interdepartmental working group on a public-private partnership approach to the provision of swimming pools, under the local authority swimming pool programme operated by the Department, is nearing completion. The consideration takes into account recent developments in the area of PPPs, including the agreement of a national PPP policy framework, which sets out principles underlying the PPP process in Ireland and the publication of the State Authorities (Public Private Partnership Arrangements) Bill, 2001, an enabling Bill in relation to the powers of State authorities to enter into PPPs and the powers of local authorities to enter into joint ventures.
