Vol. 541 No. 5

Written Answers. - Third Level Projects.

Michael Creed

Question:

271 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science the situation regarding the proposed establishment of an outreach third level education facility in the south-east and in particular the proposal to link this development with Carlow Institute of Technology; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23446/01]

I have approved the appointment of a head of centre to draw up a project plan for a reachout centre in Wexford and to drive the project forward. This post was advertised recently and an appointment will be made on completion of the recruitment process.

While it is envisaged that the proposed new centre will establish links with a range of course providers, it is necessary to have an established third level institution which will act as lead institution for legal, accounting, and academic purposes. Carlow Institute of Technology has agreed to act as the lead institution in respect of the proposed reachout centre in Wexford.
