Vol. 541 No. 5

Written Answers. - Expo 2000.

Paul Bradford

Question:

117 Mr. Bradford asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the total cost of the Government's participation in Expo 2000 in Germany. [23252/01]

It is estimated that the final net cost to the Exchequer of Ireland's participation at EXPO 2000 will be in the region of between £7.4 and 8.1 million.

It will not be possible to determine, with precision, the final net cost before end 2002 because the reimbursement of German VAT – which may amount to over £0.65 million – is not likely to be completed before then.

In any event, I can assure the Deputy that the total cost of Ireland's participation in EXPO 2000 will not exceed the approved amount of £9.1 million.
