Vol. 542 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Michael Ring

Question:

106 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the reason incorrect information was given in reply to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 772, 773, 805, 794, 768, 769 of 3 October 2001. [23570/01]

The six parliamentary questions referred to, which were answered on 3 October, concerned a claim for carer's allowance which was decided on 7 August. The person concerned is currently in receipt of carer's allowance at the rate of £76.50, 97.13, plus £26.40, 33.52, child dependant allowance.

The case in question was dealt with as quickly as possible, having regard to the number of applications for carer's allowance which are being processed at any time. The Deputy's office was kept fully informed of the progress of the case, including phone conversations with him or his office on 27 and 31 July and 1 and 10 August. I am informed that on each occasion my officials clearly advised on the status of the claim.

I am satisfied the information given to the Deputy was correct. My Department puts great effort into providing an effective response to public representatives in its inquiries on behalf of constituents and the high quality of this service is recognised by public representatives generally.
