Vol. 542 No. 1

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Projects.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

119 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will expedite the approval of an application for a grant to refurbish a swimming pool (details supplied). [23547/01]

In general there are four stages in a swimming pool project under the Local Authority Swimming Pool Programme, 2000-2002, which is administered by my Department. In order of progression, these stages are: preliminary report; contract document; tender and construction. The Department's technical adviser, the Office of Public Works, evaluates each stage and local authorities cannot proceed to the next stage of a project unless prior approval issues from my Department.

In relation to the provision of the replacement pool facility in question, the position is that the local authority has submitted a preliminary report for the project which is being examined by Office of Public Works. My officials will be in contact with the local authority when the technical assessment of its submitted proposal is complete.
