Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Billy Timmins

Question:

122 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the application from St. Mary's national school, Blessington, County Wicklow, for a full time special needs assistant for a person (details supplied) in County Wicklow; when this person will receive full time assistance; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23495/01]

My Department has sanctioned a part-time special needs assistant to support the child in question from the commencement of the current school year.

My Department's inspectorate is investigating a request to have this position assigned on a full-time basis. As soon as the inspectorate has reported, my officials will be in contact with the school authorities.
