Question:

147 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education and Science his plans for the construction of a school (details supplied); the projected date for the commencement of construction; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23586/01]

The property management section of the Office of Public Works has been asked to report on the possibility of acquiring a site for the school in question. When this report is received, the matter will be considered further.

Michael Creed

Question:

148 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science the situation regarding a proposed new national school (details supplied) in County Cork. [23606/01]

My Department has received an application for grant aid towards the cost of a building project at the school in question.

The Deputy will appreciate that there has been a massive and unprecedented increase in the funds allocated by this Government to the schools building programme at all levels.

Decisions relating to the rate of progress to construction of these projects, including the school referred to by the Deputy, will be taken in the light of the allocations to be made for school building purposes in the forthcoming Estimates.

149 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will ensure that the construction of a new school to replace the old buildings at St. Mary's secondary school, Mallow, County Cork will commence immediately; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23622/01]

The building unit of my Department has recently approved stage 5 of architectural planning, bill of quantities, for a new school to replace the old buildings at St. Mary's secondary school, Mallow, Co. Cork.

The decision to allow this project proceed to tender will be made in the light of existing commitments and budgetary allocations.

Question:

150 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will give an update on the proposed new sports hall for a school (details supplied) in Dublin 5; if the tender and final approval has been given; if the development is 100% funded by his Department; and if he will give an estimated date for the commencement and completion of the project. [23623/01]

My Department approved stage 6, tender action and report, for this project in July 2001. The contract period is nine months.

Under current funding arrangements, announced by my Department in January 1999, the school authority will provide a local contribution of £25,000.00 towards this project. My Department will provide the remaining funds.
